Disaster Incident at Igoti Primary School – Ibuje Sub County

A devastating rainstorm has caused significant destruction at Igoti Primary School in Ibuje Sub County, Apac District, leaving the school community and surrounding residents in distress.

The heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, struck the area unexpectedly, blowing off the roofs of all classroom blocks and staff quarters. Several nearby community houses were also destroyed, leaving families displaced and vulnerable.

Tragically, the disaster claimed one life within the community. Several other victims sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at nearby health facilities.

The destruction has severely disrupted learning at the school, exposing pupils to harsh weather conditions and halting normal academic activities. School property, including learning materials, has also been damaged.

Local authorities, together with district leadership in Apac District, have carried out preliminary assessments to determine the extent of the damage and immediate needs. Emergency response efforts are underway to support affected families, while plans are being mobilized for temporary shelter and rehabilitation of the school.

The district calls upon government agencies, development partners, and well-wishers to urgently support recovery efforts, particularly in reconstructing classrooms and providing relief to the affected households.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
