Apac Rolls Out UGX 179 Million Rural Water Projects to Ease Access Burden

Apac District has handed over sites for the construction of eight water supply facilities worth over UGX 179 million, in a move aimed at expanding access to safe and clean water in underserved communities.
The projects, to be implemented by Mama Borewells Africa Ltd., were officially launched in Arwotnyap village, Chegere Sub-county, with Resident District Commissioner Andrew Onyuk presiding over the site handover.
District officials said the intervention targets communities that have long relied on unsafe water sources or traveled long distances to access clean water.
The facilities will be constructed across Chegere, Akokoro, Apac, Apoi, and Ibuje sub-counties, covering key locations including Arwotnyap, Aminomong, Aburulam, Acanpii, Abuge Trading Centre, Akokonino, and Odit.
Speaking during the launch, Onyuk directed the contractor to deliver the projects within agreed timelines and in line with required standards, noting that access to safe water is central to improving health, sanitation, and productivity.
Local leaders welcomed the development, saying the new water points are expected to reduce the burden on households, particularly women and children, while lowering the risk of waterborne diseases.
The district water team said the projects form part of ongoing efforts to improve rural service delivery and align with national targets on universal access to safe water.
Once completed, the facilities are expected to significantly improve daily life for communities across the beneficiary areas.
