Commercial Services in the District 
Introduction.
Commercial Services is a department in the Directorate of Production and Marketing under Apac District Local Government. The department is mandated to formulate and support strategies, plans and programs that promote and ensure the expansion of cooperatives, trade, tourism and environmentally sustainable industrialization, and that generate wealth for poverty eradication and do benefit the district socially and economically
Major economic activities.
Subsistence agriculture is the major economic activity in the district. An estimated 80% of the district’s population is engaged in subsistence agriculture. However, with the coming of the NAADS program more farmers are graduating from subsistence to commercial farming. The main agricultural activities undertaken are the growing of maize, beans, sunflower, groundnuts, cassava, millet, rice, cotton, tobacco, bananas and the rearing of cattle, goats, pigs, children etc.
Some fishing is practiced in the south of the district, particularly in Lake Kwania and Rive Nile. Fishing farming has taken root in the district as well.

It may suffice to add that under financial services, there is only one commercial bank in the district ( i.e. Stanbic Bank ) and about 15 Micro-finance institution the majority of which are Savings and Credit Cooperatives organizations ( SACCOS).
- Tourism Attraction sites.
There are a number of tourism attraction sites in the district which require development. These are not limited to but include the following.
- Kungu (in Akokoro). This is a place where the missionaries first landed as they crossed from Bunyoro to introduce christen religion n Lango a round 1906.
- Ibuje hill. This is a place which has the footprints of ‘Olum’ who is believed to be amongst the first inhabitants in Lango.
- Akokoro. The home and burial ground of the late Dr. Apollo Milton Obote who was the Prime Minister and President of Uganda, also commonly referred to as the father of the Nation of Uganda.
- Kiiga in Chawente. This is a landing site with beautiful sceneries.
